A Unified Fading Model Using Infinitely Divisible Distributions

چکیده
This paper proposes to unify fading distributions by modeling the magnitude-squared of the instantaneous channel gain as an infinitely divisible random variable. A random variable is said to be infinitely divisible, if it can be written as a sum of n ≥ 1 independent and identically distributed random variables, for each n. Infinitely divisible random variables have many interesting mathematical properties, which can be applied in the performance analysis of wireless systems. It is shown that the proposed unification subsumes several unifications of fading distributions previously proposed in the wireless communications literature. In fact, almost every distribution used to model multipath, shadowing and composite multipath/shadowing is shown to be included in the class of infinitely divisible random variables.

Modeling of Infinite Divisible Distributions Using Invariant and Equivariant Functions
Basu’s theorem is one of the most elegant results of classical statistics. Succinctly put, the theorem says: if T is a complete sufficient statistic for a family of probability measures, and V is an ancillary statistic, then T and V are independent. A very novel application of Basu’s theorem appears recently in proving the infinite divisibility of certain statistics. In addition ...
متن کاملBeyond LDA: A Unified Framework for Learning Latent Normalized Infinitely Divisible Topic Models through Spectral Methods
In this paper we propose guaranteed spectral methods for learning a broad range of topic models, which generalize the popular Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). We overcome the limitation of LDA to incorporate arbitrary topic correlations, by assuming that the hidden topic proportions are drawn from a flexible class of Normalized Infinitely Divisible (NID) distributions. NID distributions are g...
متن کاملA characterization of ARMA and Fractional ARIMA models with infinitely divisible innovations
The object of this paper is to study the asymptotic dependence structure of the linear time series models with infinitely divisible innovations by the use of their characteristic functions. Autoregressive moving-average (ARMA) models and fractional autoregressive integrated moving-average (FARIMA) models are analyzed. As examples of infinitely divisible innovations, the class of radially absolu...
متن کاملInfinitely Divisible Distributions for Rectangular Free Convolution: Classification and Matricial Interpretation
In a previous paper ([B-G1]), we defined the rectangular free convolution ⊞ λ . Here, we investigate the related notion of infinite divisibility, which happens to be closely related the classical infinite divisibility: there exists a bijection between the set of classical symmetric infinitely divisible distributions and the set of ⊞ λ -infinitely divisible distributions, which preserves limit t...
متن کاملMarkov Processes with Infinitely Divisible Limit Distributions: Some Examples
J.BSTllCT A set of examples is described which suggests that members of a certain class of Markov processes have infinitely divisible limit distributions. A counter example rilles out such a possibility and raises the question of what further restrictions are required to guarantee infinitely divisible limits. Some related examples illustrate the same occurrence of infinitely divisible limit dis...
